What is the acai berry fruit?
Acai's scientific name is Euterpe Oleracea.  The fruit is small, measuring from 1.0 to 1.4 centimeters in diameter.  It is round and has a dark purple color.  It resembles a grape but is smaller and even darker in color.  Acai has a large seed and a little pulp.

It grows on a palm tree that produces about 20 kg of fruit per year and its harvest season (in our region) is from July to December. During nearly the whole year it can be found in different regions around the Marajó Island (North Brazil).  The acai berry is widely used in ice cream; energy drinks; energy bars (with granola); and, in Brazil, its pulp is consumed directly or it is juiced.

Where exactly is the acai fruit berry located?
The acai fruit berry is located in the Amazon rain forest of Brazil.

  • Boosts your immune system.

  • What is the relationship between red wine and antioxidants?
The acai berry is very rich in anthocyanins, an antioxidant substance that helps fight cholesterol and free radicals. Have you heard that a glass of red wine everyday is good for the heart? This is because of the anthocyanins in the grapes. It is not by accident that the color of acai is similar to the color of red wine, although the acai berry has 33 times more anthocyanins than the grape.

    What are Anthocyanins?
Anthocyanins are the antioxidant pigments found in berries and other fruits. Anthocyanins are sometimes referred to as anthocyanin pigments.

What fruits are anthocyanins found in?
White green and/or black tea, apricots, black currents, blackberries, blueberries, broad beans, buck wheat, cherries, purple and red cabbage, raspberries, red apples, reddish and purple grapes, and strawberries.

What fruits have the most anthocyanins or anthocyanin pigments?
The acai berry from the Amazon, as well as elderberries, have the most anthocyanins in them.

Who can use the acai capsule product?
According the studies done on the product, everyone can use it! However, children or people who are pregnant should check with their physicians before taking the product.

Can I take acai while taking other medication?
To date, we have not observed or had any reports of any drug-food interactions with acai. I base my conclusion on the lack of any reported and documented drug-food interactions -- despite hundreds of thousands of servings having been consumed by our clients who collectively use almost all commonly prescribed drugs .

Some cancer chemotherapy drugs that depend -- for their mode of action -- on the production of free radicals to destroy tumors, could theoretically be adversely affected by the antioxidants in acai.

However, because of the benefits of chemotherapy patients could gain from using acai, it would be unwise to simply trust the Oncologist's (cancer doctor's) memory on the mode of action of any individual chemotherapy drug. Either ask your pharmacist to look up the mode of action of your drug, or look it up yourself in the Physician's Desk Reference, on the Internet. My experience is that the Oncologist will say:  "No, don't use it..." even when the mode of action of the chemotherapy drug has nothing to do with the production of free radicals. In most cases, they simply do not know what the mode of action is without looking it up themselves.

Additionally, many Oncologists mistakenly believe that antioxidants stimulate cancer cell growth. This mistaken belief probably arises from the results of a single study which suggests that a single low dose of vitamin C stimulated the growth of both normal and cancerous cells in test subjects. Several subsequent studies proved that regular, high doses of antioxidants actually suppress cancerous cell growth. So, stand your ground in the face of possible Oncologist disapproval -- and please ask for the proof of what they are expecting you to take at face value.
