Cuts Treatment Herbs: Clean the cut and then apply comfrey leaf as an ointment or compress. Do not use comfrey for puncture wounds as the skin will heal before the deeper tissue. An alternative is calendula. You can also use aloe vera gel with turmeric applied locally for minor cuts. In addition, tea tree oil is an effective antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-fungal agent. Homeopathy: Hepar sulph., Ledum, and Hypericum are useful remedies to hasten the healing process, as are Arnica and/or Calendula ointment applied topically. Hydrotherapy: Hydrotherapy is the application of water, ice, steam and hot and cold temperatures to maintain and restore health. Treatments include full body immersion, steam baths, saunas, sitz baths, colonic irrigation and the application of hot and/or cold compresses. Hydrotherapy is effective for treating a wide range of conditions and can easily be used in the home as part of a self-care program. Many Naturopathic Physicians, Physical Therapists and Day Spas use Hydrotherapy as part of treatment. We suggest several at-home hydrotherapy treatments. Please seek the advice of your alternative health care practitioner before undergoing these procedures to make sure they are appropriate for you. Nutritional Supplementation: For cuts that are mild: After cleaning the wound, cover with a mixture of zinc oxide cream and vitamin E oil. When healing has begun, and signs of inflammation, infection, and redness are gone, use topical aloe vera. For cuts that are severe: Apply pressure until the bleeding stops. Keep covered with a bandage that creates some pressure, then ascertain if stitches are necessary (outside help such as sutures will be needed to stop bleeding and keep structures together for healing). If stitches are necessary, go immediately to an emergency room. If stitches are not necessary, treat as for mild cuts, and supplement with vitamin A, vitamin C, pantothenic acid, and zinc. For cuts that are slow to heal: Increase your vitamin C intake to three to six times daily, and add proteolytic enzymes (three to four times daily, on empty stomach, until healing gets well underway). You might also consider supplementing with arginine, an amino acid that improves both the speed and quality of wound healing. Topical Treatment: Green clay, found in health food stores, is very effective for healing cuts when made into a paste and applied topically. Colloidal silver applied topically is also very effective for speeding healing. Close Browser/Window To Return To The Main Menu |
