Stroke Treatment
Aromatherapy:
Aromatherapy can help
relieve the muscular paralysis that can
result from stroke. Lavender, rosemary, and basil essential oils are
helpful
in this regard. Massage the stroke victim's spinal column and paralyzed
parts
of the body with of one quart of rubbing alcohol containing one ounce
each
of lavender, rosemary, and basil.
Diet: Eat an organic,
whole foods diet that emphasizes on garlic, onions,
fresh fruits and vegetables, and unprocessed fats. Especially good
foods
include seafood rich in omega-3 fatty acids such as wild salmon and
fresh
water fish, raw nuts and seeds, whole grains, fresh vegetables such as
broccoli,
sprouts, and kelp. Avoid deep-fried foods, animal fats, and semi-solid
fats.
Also limit your intake of foods that contain plant sources of
estrogens,
such as soybeans and peanuts, as well as alcoholic beverages.
Herbs: The following
herbs can help improve lost circulation to the arms,
hands, legs, and feet: use elder flowers, hyssop, rosemary, and yarrow.
Damiana,
lavender, rosemary, and Siberian ginseng can help enhance and nourish
the
nervous system.
Hydrotherapy:
Hydrotherapy is the application of water, ice, steam and hot
and cold temperatures to maintain and restore health. Treatments
include
full body immersion, steam baths, saunas, sitz baths, colonic
irrigation
and the application of hot and/or cold compresses. Hydrotherapy is
effective
for treating a wide range of conditions and can easily be used in the
home
as part of a self-care program. Many Naturopathic Physicians, Physical
Therapists
and Day Spas use Hydrotherapy as part of treatment. We suggest several
at-home
hydrotherapy treatments. Please seek the advice of your alternative
health
care practitioner before undergoing these procedures to make sure they
are
appropriate for you.
Nutritional Supplementation:
The following nutrients are recommended for
preventing and helping to recover from stroke: vitamin
B-complexB-complex,
vitamin B6, vitamin C, vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids (fish oils), and
superoxide
dismutase (SOD).
