Insect and Rodent Repellent

Everything from a mosquito to a spider can cause serious reactions in the body. The problem is not the injury but what the insect leaves behind (the venom.) This is a defense mechanism that is used when for example a beehive detects danger.

When someone is stung by an insect, the area becomes swollen, red, extremely painful or burning, however some symptoms can be hard to breathe or swallow, disorientation, swelling of eyes and mouth and in some cases unconsciousness or death.

Nature gives us hundreds of insects that can bite or sting, but it also gives us an array of herbs that can reduce the itching and swelling.

Insect Bite Lotion
1 tsp. of lavender essential oil (reduces swelling and stops itiching.)
1 tbsp. of each vegetable oil, echinacea root tincture, distilled water, bentonite clay.
1/8 tsp. lavender essential oil.

Mix the echinacea, water and lavender. Add liquid slowly to the clay while stirring. Once mixed, the resulting paste should stick to the skin. Apply on the injured area. Store the poultice in a tight lid container, if it does dry out, add water until moisten enough to stick to the skin.
